Gender-based Differential Item Functioning Analysis of the Medical Specialization Education Entrance Examination

The Medical Specialization Education Entrance Examination is a national high-stake test for the placement of medical graduates in specialization training Turkey. purpose this study to determine whether items display gender-related differential item functioning (DIF) by using Mantel-Haenszel and logistic regression methods. To presence bias, content experts reviewed items. analyzes were conducted on answers 11,530 physicians Basic Sciences Clinical tests 2017 spring term. According method, there eleven out 234 identified as showing B level DIF. While six functioned favor male physicians, five them female physicians. Since number each gender close, DIF cancellation occurs. areas, one histology embryology, internal medicine, three gynecology obstetrics physiology, two pharmacology, pediatrics, surgical experts’ reviews, are no biased specialty preferences area displaying overlapped.
